Appointments at Posterngate Surgery

Ring our main switchboard on 01757 702561 to book an appointment at either our main practice or our branch surgery.

Alternatively, you can now register at the surgery to be able to book appointments online. This is an easy process and frees up the telephone line.

Urgent problems will be seen the same day by a GP. However we cannot guarantee that you will see your usual GP or any other GP that you request.

Some appointments are available up to 10 working days in advance. These are limited in number. We stagger the availability of times after this.  If your condition is non-urgent, you can expect to see a GP within two working days. However, you may have to wait longer if you want to see a particular GP.

Nurses based in our Practice treat patients for a wide range of common conditions. You can expect to see a nurse within one working day.

We offer telephone appointments with all the clinical staff, including GPs. If you feel your problem can be dealt with over the telephone, please ask our Reception team who will be pleased to help you.

Please note that we cannot guarantee the time at which you may be called back if the member of staff is not available immediately. Please note that the surgery telephone number will appear as 'private' or 'unknown' on caller display phones.

Late cancellation of appointments means that we are unable to offer that appointment to another patient and is a waste of GP or nurses time. Please try and attend.   Patients who persistently do not attend will be removed from our Practice list.

Hemingbrough Surgery

Hemingbrough Surgery is a small branch surgery, operating for a restricted number of hours. It caters for patients registered with the Practice who live in Hemingbrough, Cliffe, South Duffield, and Cliffe Common.

We dispense medicines at the surgery for these patients. We regret that we cannot dispense to any patient for whom we do not have specific authority. Generally, this covers patients who live outside the catchment area.

24 Hour Automated Telephone Appointment System

Did you know that patients can book an appointment 24 hours a day, 365 days of the year, using our automated telephone service.  Whilst you are more than welcome to book an appointment the traditional way by speaking to a receptionist, the automated telephone service is very easy to use.

In order to book an appointment using the 24 hour automated system, simply call the surgery on 01757 702561 where you will be given the same options as before.  However, when you select '1' to make an appointment, it will also offer you the chance to book this through the 24 hour automated service.  Why not give it a try, it really is simple to use.

You will be required to provide your date of birth and contact telephone number first of all so the system can verify who you are.  You can then select either the first available appointment with any GP, or select a male or female GP.  You will be given the option of each GPs name at the surgery and once you have selected your chosen GP you will be offered the next available appointment.  If this is not convenient for you, you can choose to skip this appointment to the next available appointment.  Once you have selected your appointment you will be asked to confirm it and the appointment will then be confirmed and booked.

Please note, nurse and nurse practitioner appointments are not available via our 24 hour automated system as we need to ensure your appointment is booked with the appropriate member of the medical team.

You must remember to let us know as soon as possible if you change your telephone number in order for us to update your records.

Home Visits

Home visits take considerably more time for GPs and Nurses than seeing patients at the surgery. Therefore, we encourage patients to come to the surgeries whenever possible.

To request a home visit, please contact the surgery before 10.30am. Our receptionists will need to know some details in order to give the GPs an idea of the priority for a visit. Please note that even by taking your details, the receptionists are not guaranteeing a visit. A member of the clinical team may telephone you back for more information, and it is possible you will be invited into the surgery for an appointment, if a visit is felt to be unnecessary. A lack of easily available transport is not necessarily a reason to need a home visit.

We find it very irritating to be asked to see Patients at home, to find that they are out. If you can get to the shops, with your family, or to the hairdressers, generally you can also get to the surgery.
